![]() If we produce a DisplayPort only capture card, the only market for it is PC users realistically, even then it's going to be dual PC setup. ![]() Expanding the customer base helps allow a product to benefit from some economies of scale in regards to price. You touched on this briefly, but indeed a big thing to consider is consoles would really need to launch with DisplayPort to be able help move units. The HDMI port will just drop the excess frames and only send 4K/60 to the capture card. I've done it for quite some time back when I was streaming. The best way is screen mirroring, and it should work for you if done properly. At the moment there's no clean setup and way to do this. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for them to acknowledge this. ever? Or for at least a very, very long time. We're going to be stuck with HDMI capture cards for. So there's big money to invest for R&D, and they'll need a positive ROI on that. While more and more of us are playing 4K/, we're still in a wicked minority. Another is the market for this is fairly small. Plus they can get rid of the HDMI licensing fees! But on the "cons" side, they'd have to re-do the cards to support at least PCI-E x8, because the current x4 card doesn't have remotely enough bandwidth the handle the throughput. And yes, DP is vastly superior to HDMI in every, possible way. Yes, HDMI->DP adapters could be included for the console folks. As we all know, consoles live and die by HDMI, not DisplayPort. And that's the market they're targeting in reality. Sure, you can use a PC to stream/record, but you're playing on a console. Look into it a bit more deeply and you realize they're more concerned with the console market than the PC one. I've been on their case about it since I got the 4K/144 panel back in June 2018. It isn't going to happen at least not any time soon. Good luck convincing Elgato to support anything other than HDMI. 120hz was just an example off the top of my head. Some 4K displays are going as high as 200+hz soon.but none I would consider to be in the mainstream consumer market. There may be a few sub $2000 DP capture cards.I want a clean setup that doesn't require workarounds that use system resources I shouldn't be using having a capture card No, I don't want to record at 144 - 240hz.I re-posted this to correct an error in the title that was bothering me. They could easily be included in the box. but common, that's what HDMI adapters are for. I know Elgato has said they don't want to go down that path because most devices still use HDMI. I just feel it is time for a sub $2000 DP capture card. Just doesn't seem worth the money if it can't actually give me a clean setup that eliminates my main system from having to use system resources. NDI works great, and frankly 3 - 5% CPU usage for either that or screen projector seems like a small performance cost to save me nearly $600 CAD. Save the money and stick to my current setup of using the projector or NDI.With the current Elgato lineup capping out at 1440p 144hz I am left with two options.Īrguably not the worst thing ever since the only games that will reach 200+ FPS are E-Sport related The monitor I am planning on upgrading to is a 1440p 240hz panel. ![]() I was considering upgrading to a Elgato 4k60 pro, but if I am to have the same problem once I get a new monitor I don't know why I would spend the money. I cannot mirror displays because then my 144hz panel is locked to 60hz, or of not locked performs oddly. The resource usage is small, but to me the entire point of going with a duel PC setup was / is to eliminate any performance loss on my main system. I am either using NDI, or I am using OBS full screen projector. I cannot get a clean setup where my main PC isn't having to use system resources to get my screen onto my streaming PC. I run a duel PC setup and have had a persistent problem for years already using my HD60 PRO. ![]()
